Busy summer!

June was a really busy month for us! Work on the bathroom went really well. Our alien bathroom was finished right in time for my families visit! The guys did a great job and we are so glad we did it! The kids finished school, their teachers made it as fun as possible! Luke’s teachers gave Luke a cute bucket with chalk, bubbles, fun little things, and a sweet note about how they enjoyed being his teacher this year. Virginia’s class had a fun pajama party day to celebrate the end of the year. I’m so excited for them to be at the same school in the fall! It will be so nice to walk them both over and drop them off for the day! As of now the school is saying they’ll be there all 5 days of the week! Fingers crossed that stays true.

My parents, Lillian, and Christian flew in on the 17th. They said the airport was crazy busy, but they made it in one piece! The kids loved exploring our house and meeting Freya! Freya was super excited for about 15 minutes and then she calmed down and didn’t try to jump on anyone anymore. We stayed so busy during their visit! We went to Pike Place Market, rode the big wheel, went to the Museum of Flight, the aquarium, went on a ferry ride, played at a bunch of playgrounds, had some picnics. The kids played in our little pool and with the sprinkler. We did have a random water pressure problem, luckily my dad was able to fix it with a few Home Depot and Lowe’s runs.

Mom and I snuck away one afternoon and went to the outlet mall and stayed at the casino nearby. We played bingo and played the slots until almost 1 am! We both won a little money (I was up $40 and mom made about $60). We ordered room service in the morning before leaving. It was so fun to have some time alone! The parents watched all the kids one night and Joe and I went to dinner in Seattle. We tried Staple and Fancy, which was fun but a bit too adventurous for me. They do a pre-set menu and you just have to roll with it. It’s supposed to be an Italian place, but when we went it was very seafood heavy. Joe was really brave and tried sardines! It was really fun to get dressed up and go out together! I think we’d gone on two dates in the past year and a half.

My parents were supposed to leave Monday morning. I dropped them off at the airport at 7:30 for their 10 am flight, and we could tell the airport was a mess. It took them an hour and a half to check their bag and get through security, only to find out their flight had been cancelled while they were going through security. Alaska cancelled 17 flights that morning, they didn’t have enough ground crew to work the flights. My dad had to wait almost 2 hours to get to a gate agent to rebook their flight, and everything that day was already booked to get to Nashville. They had to wait until Tuesday to get a flight, so I came back out to get them. The kids were happy to have them all back for another night, but I felt so bad for them to have to go through the crazy airport again. I dropped them off at 5 am for a 7 am flight. They were able to check their bag and get through security pretty quick, and then had time to relax before boarding.

It was so fun to have a full house for so long! Luckily we have so much going on this summer that the kids won’t have much time to get bored with just the 4 of us here. Rick had an overnight at Seatac yesterday, so the kids and I drove out to see him. He landed at 11 so we picked him up and went to Ihop for lunch. His hotel had a great pool, so we hung out there for almost 2 hours! The water was pretty cold, but the kids didn’t mind. We brought Rick back to our house to have dinner with us. We boiled brats in beer and then grilled them, and I boiled corn on the cob in a water/milk/butter bath. It was all so good! The weather was perfect for eating out on the patio. I love our backyard so much! Joe drove Rick back to his hotel after dinner, his flight left at 5 am this morning!

Joe has Monday off of work, but we’re just being lazy this weekend and hanging out. Joe has been so busy at work, I want him to be able to relax for a bit! We had a serious heat wave last week while my parents were here, it got to 111 degrees out! I am so glad that Joe and I put air conditioning in when we moved in! We would have literally melted if we didn’t have it. The weather has cooled back down to around 80 now though, so the kids can play outside!

We have a lot more fun stuff coming up on the calendar, I’m glad I was able to get on and update now before I get too behind!
